St. Joseph's S S Kakindu  formerly known  as St. Joseph's College  Mwera before 1982. Started as a private school in 1967  by Rev Fr. Guy Catoire, in a primary school building near the Parish. After a while , it moved  to present  location where it was allocated 10 acres of land by the then Bishop of Kiyinda Mityana Diocese Rt. Emmanuel Wamala.

In 1981, the school was recognized for aiding by Gov't of Uganda hence getting it's "O" level UNEB centre no. in 1982. In 1987, the "A" level status was acquired hence become "O" and "A" level.
